Education in translation and languages
1993 graduate from Colégio Técnico da Fundação José Carvalho, a boarding school in Brazil offering high level general and technical education.
The four-year translation program included:
- linguistics, morphology, stylistics and phonetics of both English and Portuguese
- Brazilian, American and English Literature (14th-20th centuries)
- practice of technical translation (Engineering, Industry, Commerce, Tourism/Accommodations, Mining/Mineralogy, Computer Science etc.)
- practice of literary translation
- practice of consecutive interpreting
- compulsory training period as a translator at Cia. Baiana de Pesquisa Mineral, working primarily with Geology texts and business correspondence
Languages learned after the basic education as an English-Portuguese translator:
- German at Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia and Goethe-Institut Iserlohn (Germany)
- Spanish at Sociedad Cultural Caballeros de Santiago, in Salvador
- French at Alliance Française Salvador
Professional experience
Professional translator for English-Portuguese since 1993. Working with many subjects, especially Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, Philosophy and Third Sector. Book translations in the the subject of Philosophy have been published in Brazil.
Professional translator for German-Portuguese since 1999. Six-year collaboration with local sworn translator Osmar Feitoza do Nascimento. Official appointment as an ad-hoc public sworn translator for German-Portuguese in the State of Bahia, during Mr. Nascimento's one-year leave (2002-2003). Both the collaboration and the replacement period as an ad-hoc public translator enabled the acquisition of a large terminology background not only in Law and Business/Finance, but also in Industrial Engineering and Quality Management.
Professional translator for Spanish-Portuguese since 2005, working exclusively with legal translations. A book translation in the subject of Law have been published in Brazil.
